Following the Webcast

For those interested in following the progress of the race, there will be a webcast going on over the course of the whole thing. Keep in mind that they're updating from some fairly remote locations, all on one little 28.8 modem, so updates & pictures sometimes come in a little late. In any event, the URL for the webcast will be:

More good news. Mark Giebel, one of my crew, called his friend who is a mountain climbing guide up in Bishop. He said his wife had gone all the way to the top of Whitney with only climbing poles about a week ago. So with 2 additional weeks of sunny weather, it looks like the trail to the top should be open!

I also checked the moon phase information, which you can also do if you like:

If you enter the city of Lone Pine, you'll see that we're due for a moonless night, which means everyone out there is going to have a spectacular view of the stars...much better than if we had a full moon. Although my first time across was four years ago, I remember how clearly we could see the Milky Way...it looks like a white band rather than a sprinkling of dots.
